"Projects" are alterations, new construction, or renovations on campus that involve multiple trades and have a cost that exceeds $5,000. All modifications to the physical structure of campus buildings and grounds must be managed by Facilities, per UNT Policy 11.009.

Any project, new construction, renovation, building upgrade, equipment installation, and other related type of activities must have Space Planning and Managment approval prior to start of work.

Step 1

If you are considering a project for your area at UNT, please fill out the Space/Project Request Form by clicking here.

Special approvals may be needed if a project looks like it may exceed $100,000 - our team can guide you through that process as it will require review from UNT's Presidental Cabinet in a special session typically held at the end of each fall and spring semesters.

Next steps

You may need help determining the cost of a prospective project. Facilities can help with that!

  • Our team can guide you through an Opinion of Cost Estimate. This gives you insight on what an upcoming project could cost, based on materials pricing that we track, to give you a better idea of financial feasibility. With this you can get an idea of how much you need to request but this is not an official quote; this is solely for planning purposes. Here's an example of what an Opinion of Cost Estimate might look like.
  • You may also choose to do a rough estimate of your own. Our DIY Project Estimate Calculator can give you general ideas for commonly used renovation items. Real market prices and specific item costs may vary. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board also has a Construction Cost Calculator that can be adjusted to give you a general idea of the cost of new construction or repair/renovation costs. Their page also houses historic data on average construction-related costs.
  • Once your project has been approved, you will be contacted by a Project Manager at Facilities to discuss your specific needs. This will get us closer to identifying a detailed budget and the scope of work required. You will need to approve significant changes, especially to anything that impacts your budget. UNT's Budget Office may also need to approve of the plan for your project.
  • Upon receipt of all required approvals, your Facilities Project Manager will begin procuring goods and services, and scheduling construction activities.
  • Throughout the project, you will receive regular updates from the Project Manager.
  • At the end of construction, the PM will coordinate any punch list items with you and provide warranty assistance.
