Why is this happening?

UNT owns and operates the 13,200 volt electrical distribution system that powers on campus, and that system requires preventative maintenance to help ensure reliable electrical service and avoid unplanned outages. Performing this necessary maintenance during Winter Break minimizes the disruption to our campus community!

Where and when will the outages happen?

Outages are planned to occur during the day, with all electricity being restored by the end of each work day. Outages will be staggered and work will not occur the weekend of 12/28 – 12/29.

Is there anything I should do to prepare for my building to be out?

Before leaving for break, be sure to:

  • Unplug all devices and appliances to save electricity and reduce the risk of electrical fires. This includes:
    • Unplugging cellphone chargers
    • Emptying and defrosting any mini fridges
    • Flipping power strips off
    • Unplugging appliances like microwaves, coffee makers, lamps, etc
  • Turn off all lights before you leave including dorm rooms, offices and common areas to conserve energy.
  • Draw the blinds and close any windows to better insulate the heat.
