There are several projects planned or underway during spring 2025 at the University of North Texas. This page is intended as a general guide for UNT community members. Please note that timelines may change depending on weather or other conditions.

For the most updated news, please follow our social media: @UNTFacilitiesDept on Facebook and @UNTFacilities on Instagram and X.

Note:  the City of Denton owns all roads in and around campus. We alert our city partners to make them aware of UNT activities, but their work must sometimes proceed during our busy times. Please stay informed and have patience. All of this work will create smooth, new roads for our campus. Read more details about ongoing construction on the City of Denton's website.

map showing sections where work will be done along Welch Street

The work is being done in sections (ordered chronologically):
  • Chestnut Street to Prairie Street
    • Lot 47 will be inaccessible while this section is closed.

  • Mulberry Street to Chestnut Street
  • Hickory Street to Mulberry Street
  • Highland Street to Eagle Drive
  • Prairie Street to Highland Street
Each section will be fully closed one-by-one while the city completes their work. The rest of Welch will remain open, with detours around the section undergoing work.

Several UNT buses use Welch Street to access their pick up/drop off locations along Union Circle. Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) is aware of the detours needed by this roadwork and has adjusted their schedules accordingly.

Please be aware that due to traffic conditions, there may still be delays for some bus routes.
Lot 7
Lot 7 is being replaced by the upcoming Science & Technology Building, and work began in summer 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2026.

UNT Transportation Services has made some accommodations to help student commuters find parking, including:
  • Construction of Lot 59 on the old Oak Street Hall site. Students can find this lot at 1120 W. Oak Street.
  • Reworking some previous resident parking lots and making them Eagle parking lots. Notably, Lots 14 and 15, which are across the street from a bus stop of the Mean Green route (MG111).
  • Expansion of Eagle spaces in Lot 20, across from the UNT Coliseum. The AC101 bus runs between Lot 20 and the Life Science building area roughly every 10 minutes, providing students with quick transport to the heart of campus.
