The City of Denton began road repair on Maple Street from Eagle Landing to the Coliseum
in January 2024.
This work is expected to be completed by July 2024. There will be one lane of traffic
flow during the duration of the project. Orange construction fencing will be used
to completely barricade the perimeter of the job site during each phase. Pedestrians
must use crossings at Ave A or Ave C. This will ensure they avoid any chemicals or
equipment used in the roadwork.

- No Crosswalks across Maple St on 4/17; Kerr accessible path to use building's south
exit
- Crews will be laying down lime across the entire job site on Wednesday, April 17,
and the temporary pedestrian crossings will be closed for this operation.
- Pedestrians will need to cross at Ave A and Ave C.
- The temporary pedestrian crossings will open again Thursday morning.
- The extent of work along the south side of Maple means that the accessible pathway
leaving Kerr Hall should use the building's south exit and navigate around the building
until the temporary crossings are open again on Thursday.
- Tomorrow, (4/3) the south side of Maple St will be excavated and milled. No crosswalks
through the job site will be open. Pedestrians will need to cross at Ave A or Ave
C.
- In addition to crosswalks at Ave A and Ave C, accessible crosswalks in front of Kerr
Hall and Maple Hall will be built tomorrow to allow safe crossings for pedestrians
through the job site.
- These crosswalks will open on Thursday morning, 4/4.
- The sidewalk between Wesley Foundation and Kerr Hall, including the Ave B intersection/crosswalk
will be closed during this phase.
- Work on the north side is nearing completion and will be open to traffic next week.
- Work will start shifting to the south side the latter part of next week.
- Here's an overview of the remainder of the project.*
- March 25-26: Install second layer of asphalt on the north side.
- March 27: Open north side to traffic and start closing southern side (aka Phase 2).
- March 27-28: Barricade off sidewalk areas and the Ave B intersection (see below) that
will be in the construction zone.

- *Dates subject to change due to weather and any unforeseen job site conditions.
- The sidewalk between Wesley Foundation and Kerr Hall, including the Ave B intersection/crosswalk
will be closed during this phase.
- The contractor will install two temporary crossings [one in front of Maple Hall, one
in front of Kerr Hall] to allow for safe, accessible pedestrian crossings.
- Sundt continues to work the soil today and tomorrow .
- Soil testing came back requiring more stabilization to occur.
- 2/26 - 2/27: fine grading of soil occurs next Monday and Tuesday.
- 2/28 - 2/29: asphalt being laid/cured next Wednesday and Thursday.
- 3/1: Ave B crossing planned to be rebuilt and opened at the end of the day.
- Starting as early as 2/15, lime chemicals will be mixed in the soil.
- The open crosswalk at Ave B will be closed for approx. 3 days during this process.
- These chemicals are caustic without proper protection/treatment. People must not enter
the job site at any time for any reason.
- Please stay out of the work zone at all times.
- As of now, the existing work zone is on track to complete in late March.
- Starting on Monday, 1/29, excavation is beginning. Large trucks and heavy equipment
will be moving throughout the job site from Highland Parking Garage to Rawlins Hall.
- Pedestrians are asked to stay out of the job site and not to cross the construction
fencing.
- Schedule is still tracking for a late March completion of the existing job area, then
switch to the south side.
