North Texas Boulevard Construction Information

The City of Denton's "2020 Street Reconstruction Bundle: Southwest Sector Project" is a part of a multi-phase street reconstruction project to rebuild existing streets that have reached the end of their useful life.

The Southwest Sector phase includes the street reconstruction of N. Texas Boulevard. The street reconstruction will include new curb and gutter, asphalt roadways as well as upgraded water and wastewater facilities between Eagle Dr and Oak St.

News as of 8/3/2022

  • The intersection @ Eagle Dr is open to traffic.
    • The southbound lanes are open to traffic between Eagle and Highland – one lane in each direction.
    • Paving operations are taking place in the northbound lanes between Eagle and Highland.

 

News as of 7/15/2022

  • The intersection @ Eagle Dr is open to traffic.
    • The northbound lanes are open to traffic between Eagle and Highland – one lane in each direction.
    • Paving operations are taking place in the southbound lanes between Eagle and Highland; when that’s complete it will switch sides.

 

News as of 7/12/2022

  • The intersection @ Eagle Dr is anticipated to be open to traffic Friday morning.
  • Then, the City will be working on repaving the two northbound lanes between Eagle and Highland.
    • The two southbound lanes will be open for one lane of traffic in each direction between Highland St and Eagle.

 

News as of 6/15/2022

  • The intersection @ Oak St and North Texas Blvd is closed to allow the City to tap the water main.
  • Through traffic on Hickory Street has been blocked past Bradley street. Entry to campus has been redirected to Bonnie Brae Street.

 

News as of 6/14/2022

  • The intersection @ Oak St and North Texas Blvd is supposed to be closed 06/15/2022 to allow the City to tap the water main.
  • Traffic has been shifted to the two northbound lanes on NTB between Oak St & Hickory St.
  • Utility locates between Eagle and Highland St are planned to begin ~July 5th on North Texas Blvd. This is the preliminary phase of road reconstruction.

 

News as of 6/03/2022

  • Traffic will shift again from the two southbound lanes to the northbound lanes of NTB between Stella and Hickory
  • The date for the shift is tentatively scheduled for June 6th.
  • The intersection of Oak St and NTB will be shut down mid-week for 1-2 days. Timing is dependent on progress and weather.
  • A traffic plan for the Oak St. intersection shutdown will be provided when available.

 

News as of 5/24/2022

  • Traffic will shift again from the two southbound lanes to the northbound lanes of NTB between Stella and Hickory
  • The date for the shift is weather dependent. The shift will occur between Wednesday 05/25 to Monday 05/30
  • The water main should be complete in the next two weeks.

News as of 5/09/2022

  • Alert! Traffic shift taking place this afternoon on North Texas Blvd. Due to rain last week construction progress on NTB was hindered. Crews will continue to patch open trenches on the southbound side of NTB today and then shift traffic to the southbound side of NTB this afternoon. The shift will occur between West Prairie and Sycamore initially.
    • Crews will patch open trenches from Highland to Chestnut.
    • West Prairie will be open for use later today after the trench line is patched.
    • Between Wednesday and Thursday of this week crews will repair issues with the roadway in the vicinity of the Coliseum for graduation.

 

News as of 4/19/2022

  • Alert! The north-most entry to Lot 19/20 (aka Allan Saxe Drive south of Traditions Hall) will be closed this afternoon for an extended period of time --- expect 2-3 weeks. 
    • Crews will be staging their materials between Chestnut St and Highland St in preparation for advancing work on the water line that would start next week.
  • The remainder of this week, crews are moving materials, cleaning the area, opening all driveways & crosswalks, and laying down asphalt topping between Highland and Eagle to open up both southbound lanes next week.
    • Next week, traffic pattern will shift to be one lane in each direction between Chestnut and Highland St.
    • Next week, both southbound lanes will be open south of Highland St

 

News as of 4/18/2022

  • Crews are working through the Highland St intersection and are pushing to get the crosswalk open ASAP.
  • The northern-most entry to Lot 20/Lot 19 near Traditions Hall is expected to be closed 4/21 – 4/22.
    • Closure of W Prairie St will follow, likely next week.

 

News as of 4/1/2022

  • On Monday, 4/4, the City will start implementing their traffic control plan to close both southbound lanes between Highland and Eagle in preparation for water line work, phase 1.
    • Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Highland and Eagle.

 

News as of 3/24/2022

  • The on-going sewer line work is expected to wrap up at the end of next week.

  • The water line installation is expected to begin Monday, April 4 from near the entry to Murchison Performing Arts and move north along the roadway in three distinct phases (displayed below).

News as of 3/11/2022 

  • Sycamore St intersection will remain closed through the weekend and likely re-open Tuesday morning, March 15th. 

  • Chestnut St intersection is expected to be fully closed starting next Tuesday or Wednesday for installation of a manhole with the goal to be done by the end of next week. 

  • Work will then proceed northward from Chestnut to Sycamore, finishing the last stretch of sewer main installation. 

  • Sewer main installation between Chestnut St and Hickory St continues into phase 3. Anticipated completion end of March.  

  • Water main installation is expected to begin later this month/early April  

    More dates to come.  

News as of 2/9/2022

  • Work to install a new sewer main between Chestnut and Hickory is scheduled to start on Monday, February 14. North TX Blvd will be closed between Hickory St and Stella St for the first phase of this work.
    • This work will not affect any wastewater service of any buildings.
    • The two northbound lanes of North TX Blvd will be closed, and the two southbound lanes will be converted to accommodate bi-directional traffic.

  • Utility installation work along Stella St between North TX Blvd and Bonnie Brae continues.
    • At this time, a complete closure of Stella St between North TX Blvd and Bonnie Brae is expected to occur in early March for roadway construction. These full closures will happen in phases.

News as of 1/10/2022

  • Labor shortages have delayed the start of the sewer line work between Chestnut and Hickory. The new anticipated timeframe to begin this work is in early February.

News as of 12/14/2021:

  • Work on the water line tap near the crosswalk to Murchison Performing Arts is active, and is expected to be complete this week. No pedestrian mobility is affected.
  • The sewer line work between Chestnut and Hickory is being rescheduled to begin on January 3, 2022.

News as of 12/13/2021:

  • The following utility work is expected to occur over the UNT Winter Break starting December 13, 2021.
    • The week of December 13, the City will perform a tap of an existing water main in preparation for a future water line to tie into. The location of this work will be near the crosswalk to Murchison Performing Arts - the crosswalk will be open.
    • Expected to begin January 3, work will commence on the installation of a new wastewater line between Chestnut St and Hickory St.
