Heavy Construction Approaching Bonnie Brae

What’s going on?

The City of Denton is currently underway with the installation of a large 42-inch water main along Bonnie Brae from Highland Park Rd to I-35E, a project named “North-South Water Main Phase II.” The work is taking place along Bonnie Brae between Roselawn Ave and I-35E.

To learn more about this project, visit the City’s project webpage here: https://www.cityofdenton.com/en-us/government/strategic-initiatives/improving-denton/capital-improvement/north-south-water-main

How will this affect UNT?

In order for crews to safely complete construction, 500-foot sections of Bonnie Brae will be closed at a time. No vehicular traffic will be allowed through, although the City will be providing temporary access points for residents affected by this work. This means that as work progresses north towards Bonnie Brae, certain entrances to Mean Green Village and Eagle Point will be closed.

At this point in time, the rolling closure footprint will reach Willowwood St around early-to-mid April, at which point it will march north along Bonnie Brae as crews complete their work one section at a time. UNT is working closely with the City project team to anticipate and mitigate impacts to operations at Mean Green Village and Eagle Point, and working to provide temporary access points to Mean Green Village as needed.

UNT community members who rely on the facilities on both sides of Bonnie Brae should be prepared to take alternate routes to access the area and anticipate those routes will change as work progresses. UNT Facilities will be partnering with affected departments and the University’s Brand Strategy and Communications division to share new information via various formats so the UNT community is kept up-to-date on activities related to this construction project.

For those who depend on Bonnie Brae as part of their commute, give yourself more time to get to your destination safely. Students who rely on the North Texas bus route, make sure to check the UNT Transit app as your route may be affected due to construction.
